This 1947 FORD WOODIE went from a Southern California “Surf Wagon” in Huntington Beach to a Modified and Refurbished National Award Winning Restoration. From “GRAND NATIONAL” 1st in class award to numerous other accolades, this car always draws a lot of attention.
This ground up total restoration included a custom boxed chassis, TCI front suspension with a CURRIE 9” FORD rear end. Braking is supplied by WILWOOD with four drilled and slotted rotors and a Superior Performance calipers both front and rear. A WILWOOD compact tandem Master Cylinder completes the brake system with a floor mounted “E-Brake.”
TOM MASEK ENGINEERING built a custom ZZ-5 small block Chevy. Polished Aluminum heads were supplied by Airflow Research. An ISKY roller camshaft was also utilized. A Corvette TPI (Tuned-Port) Fuel Injection system was also installed. The drivetrain was completed with a four speed 700-R4 transmission complete with total gloss black powder coated case. Transmission pan with all assembly bolts are all polished stainless Allen heads.
Wheels and Knock-off’s supplied by HALIBRAND ENGINEERING. HOOSIER - Pro Street complete the ride with the front riding on 26 x 750 R15 and rears 29 x 12.50 15LT. Wheels and all polishing completed by ALL STAR POLISHING as well as total Chrome Finishing.
A custom fiberglass “Faux Wood” Surfboard display with “Special Thanks” matches the Honey Maple and Philippine Mahogany wood utilized throughout the entire car. Credits are shown highlighting the most talented individuals who made this unique build possible. They all made their individual contributions showcasing what they do best.
A custom air intake with K & N inner fender system was fabricated. Powder Coated valve covers with fuel injection cover plate also received Gloss Black Powder Coating. Also included are polished air conditioning compressor and alternator with polished brackets Extensive use of Stainless Braided hoses along with Stainless tubing for brakes and fuel systems mount to the chassis.
A custom radiator with Electric Fan was utilized which makes a “Slow Cruise” possible while still keeping the water temp at lease 180 or less “This car does not over heat.”
Attention to every detail is shown on the underside of this car. Stainless hoses with and tubing is used exclusively. Adjustable shocks perfects a very smooth ride. A custom polished Aluminum fuel tank shows well. The complete exhaust system was Jet Coated and looks as fresh as the day it was installed.
Exclusive use of Honey Maple and Philippine Mahogany was used by the FORD MOTOR COMPANY in 1947. Custom aspects which include a 3” Chop Top was performed by both Heiden Woodworking and the custom tailgate with a 3rd Brake Light fabrication by IRON MOUNTAIN Wood Working.
The complete exterior and interior wood including all door panels and roof bows were re-varnished by Rick Hilts custom finishing.
The complete ’47 dash is ALL bone stock. All chrome pieces were re-worked by ALL STAR METAL. The Air Conditioning ducting was re-routed to exit where the original radio speaker, center dash was intended. Additional air vents exit just below the dash.
All new electronic gauges were built by CLASSIC INSTRUMENTS and were designed to match the original ‘47design in looks and colors
A custom steering wheel was designed and manufactured by Dennis Crooks and takes on the ’47 FORD look. The clear burgundy colors are also used on all dash knobs, turn indicator and tilt control. The clear plastic hood ornament insert also matches the burgundy color selected.
The original ’47 FORD radio was re-worked by Jeffery Huntoon at HOT ROD ELECTRIC. That included a KENWOOD Amp with front and rear speakers which provide excellent sound quality. A rear subwoofer was also integrated into the system. The radio is also set up to include BLUE TOOTH capabilities with controls available through an APPLE iPhone. The entire car was wired with RON FRANCIS WIRE WORKS.
The front seat frame was provided by GLIDE ENGINEERING. All upholstery fabrics were supplied by HIRSH AUTO FABRICS. Carpet specified was BENTLY / ROLLS ROYCE. All stitching provided by Pete Engle and the team at WESTMINSTER AUTO UPHOLSTERY. The black fabric top is MERCEDES BENZ Hartz cloth with additional insulation on top. Finished matching carpet floor mats are used both front and rear.
A rear storage compartment was fabricated with gas shocks and self closing locks. A storage light is automatically activated when bin is opened. This Woodie has been with this seller for almost twenty-five years and since its very last finishing details in preparation for the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, California has only accumulated 1,100 miles.
